Robert F. Bils, 85, a long-time Biology professor at USC and resident of Montebello passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2016. Born in Harvey, Illinois, he studied at the University of Illinois, where he earned a Ph.D. in botany and biochemistry. He served in the Army in Japan. After his postdoctoral fellowship at MIT, he joined the faculty at USC in 1962 and retired from there after 37 years. Up until the last few years of his life, he enjoyed weekly golf dates, singing in a barbershop chorus, traveling, fishing and scuba diving.
He was the proud grandfather of Christy and Wesley Harter, proud father of Lynne (John) Bernard, Julie (Gene Atlas) Bils Maurer and Lisa (Bill) Harter and loving husband to Afrodite "Veeni" of 61 years--all of whom he leaves behind.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Barbershop Harmony Society, aka SPEBSQSA (Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America).
