Alexandrina Anna Dinneen, 92, was born in Seneca, Kansas on November 14, 1919 and passed away in Hollywood on August 7, 2012. She was born Alexandrina Anna Kohake in Seneca, Kansas, Rena was the third of nine children raised in an active household.. Rena worked for the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C. during WWII and moved to California after the war to attend UCLA, where she graduated with honors in 1950. With a background in nutrition and home economics, Rena worked for a number of years as a dietician until she met her love, Charles (Lt. Colonel Charles Dinneen, Jr.). Rena and Chuck spent 53 years together, raising four sons; three of whom graduated from their father's Alma Mater, Whittier College. Rena is survived by Greg, of Irvine, Gary, of Los Altos, Michael, of Hollywood, and Richard, of Montebello plus four grandchildren. An active gardener, painter, and world traveler, Rena and her husband
shared many adventures together, cruising the world to such exotic places as Tahiti, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, and the Mediterranean. A devoted UCLA fan, Rena enjoyed the heyday of John Wooden and Bruin basketball, the Rose Parade and Bowl, and anything associated with the classic film "The Sound of Music". A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
She is survived by her sons, Gregory Stephen Dinneen of Irvine, Gary Mark (Jill) Dinneen of Los Altos, Ca., Michael Patrick (Rachel) Dinneen of Hollywood and Richard Gerard Dinneen of Montebello. She also leaves her grandchildren, Birdie, Caitlin, Tyler and Jessica and her sisters, Mary Alice Kohake of Seal Beach and Margaret Teresi of Los Altos and several nieces and nephews.
