Gilbert G. Jaurigue, 85, was born in Jerome, Arizona on December 4, 1927 and passed away in Lynwood, Ca. on January 3, 2013. He was previously employed for the City of Commerce in their street maintenance department for 8 years. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corp. during the Korean War and was given an Honorable Discharge.
Gilbert was a dedicated husband and father who expressed his love in his own unique way. He was a wonderful provider and a very generous and unselfish man who helped all of his children and grandchildren to have the opportunity for an improved lifestyle. He developed a strong work ethic from early childhood and was a stranger to no one as he was very friendly and sociable and enjoyed talking to people, even complete strangers. As a survivor of the depression era, he learned to be a wise investor of finances and resources and taught this important life value and skill to his children. He was always the type to recycle anything and everything, even before it became the necessary thing to do and he donated many useful resources to the less fortunate and had a heart for the disadvantaged. He loved most of all, playing "Santa" with money cards at Christmas for all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. If you knew Gilbert, you may say he was the "pioneer of preppers." Upon entering his garage, it was set up as a "supply house" for disaster preparedness. He valued his solitude time organizing his garage while listening to his Mariachi and other types of Mexican music that Mom did not especially care for. Upon entering his garage, it was set up as a "supply house" for disaster preparedness. He valued his solitude time organizing his garage while listening to his Mariachi and other types of Mexican music that Mom did not especially care for. He would always show his love and care taking for his children and grandchildren by sending them home with a box of groceries from "Chapo's store."
Gilbert's hobbies were caring for his pets. He had a heart and niche for animals and a special relationship with his variety of birds. Boxing was Gilbert's favorite sport and he had a passion for football as the Los Angeles Rams were his favorite team. He supported mom by watching Lakers games with her while complaining at the same time, "there's too many fouls and whistles in this game!" He had an incredible sense of humor and enjoyed watching comedies and classic movies with his wife and children which resulted in all of his sons becoming true "Stooge" fans! Gilbert was also a barber. He loved giving his 3 boys haircuts on Sundays right after church, something Gilbert Jr. always dreaded! Gilbert took pleasure in the outdoors ... His children have fond memories of summer days at Shady Oaks in the mountains near a running river and their Dad building a small dam for them to swim in. Gilbert took pleasure in taking his family to "The Pike Amusement Park" in Long Beach on Wednesday evenings for his kids to enjoy ... or to another big event on Sundays at a newly formed franchise ... McDonald's! Regular family fishing trips to MacArthur Park followed by a treat for everyone at his favorite hot dog place are also precious memories held by his children.
Gilbert was not a religious man but a very spiritual man who had a strong belief in God since early childhood. He would often request prayer with his family and is now in heaven because he willingly accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior ... just prior to his first major surgical procedure in Feb. 2011. Eternally, God has him now, as one of His heavenly servants, ready to do work for the Lord. Amen!
