Jeffrey "Jeff" William Johnson, 75, was born on April 16, 1948, in Los Angeles, California to Harold Johnson and Dorothy Wilmore. Jeff entered into his eternal rest on February 13, 2024, in Los Alamitos, California surrounded by his loved ones.
Following a lifetime dedicated to serving the Lord, Jeff, the longtime pastor of Calvary Chapel Downey, peacefully entered his Master's presence on February 13, 2024. Surrounded by his family singing worship songs, Jeff took the hand of his Savior, finally liberated from his brave fight against cancer. With joy, his wife, Karyn, announced Jeff's arrival to his heavenly home, declaring, "He made it!"
In the diverse community of our faith, Pastor Jeff emerged as a guiding light, illuminating the path to spiritual growth and unwavering devotion. His life was a testament to the profound love and grace of our Lord, a journey marked by selfless service and a steadfast commitment to spreading the transformative message of Christ.
Jeff and Karyn were known to have a great love of Israel. After stepping down as senior pastor, Pastor Jeff announced to his fellowship a vision from the Lord for them: “We are being called to go to Israel and bless Messianic-believing Jews and help them get stronger in the Lord.”
Jeff is survived by his devoted family; his wife, Karyn Johnson, his children, Christy Tal (David), Tara Escandon (Yuri), Linda Spahr (William), and Jeffrey Rosen, his grandchildren, Jason Beggs (Shaley), Emily Beggs, Laura Baca (Justin), Natalie Leonard, Taryn Leonard, Andrew Escandon, Aaron Escandon, Annie Jo Escandon, and Abby Escandon, his great grandchildren, Ameilia Escandon, Malakai Baca, and Wade Jones, his brother, Dan Johnson, and his cherished church community.
His impact extended as he formed strong connections within the congregation, becoming an integral part of his church family. The love and support from both his relatives and his church community are a testament to the meaningful relationships he cultivated throughout his years of service and dedication.
