Adolfo “Dorfie” Gabaldon, 84, was born on August 21, 1932 in Grants, New Mexico to Justiano and Amalia Gabaldon, and entered into the kingdom of heaven on June 16, 2017. Though a resident of Montebello, California the past 52 years he also spent time at his beloved “ranchito “ in Tome, New Mexico
Those that greeted Dorfie at the pearly gates include his parents Justiano and Amalia Gabaldon, sister, Epephania Gabaldon, and children Richard, Geraline, Helen Marie, and several close friends and dear relatives which include Delores Blea “Tia Lita”, Benny and Josephina Garcia, and Faye Gabaldon.
He possessed extraordinary culinary talent which led to a career in the restaurant industry. He took great pride in his craft and freely shared his recipes with the exception of his famous “bread-pudding”. He was also an entrepreneur and owned three restaurants; Monte Carl, Grants, New Mexico, Joi’s Coffee Shop, Irwindale, California, and The Mustard Seed, Arcadia, California.
Though his was quiet and reserved he was a man of action. Throughout his life he was driven to do the right thing with no expectation of being rewarded. He was a devoted Christian man who loved God with all his heart. He served the Lord for over 34 years holding various positions at Beverly Boulevard Foursquare Church, Agape Christian Center, and Florence Avenue Foursquare Church. These positions included church elder, councilman, Sunday school teacher, leader of the Homeless ministry, leader of the Men’s ministry, Regent of the Facultad de Teologia, and lead missionary trips to Mexico. He also mentored and was a father figure to several men who affectionately called him “Papa G”.
Dorfie was a devoted husband, father and friend. He is survived by his true love of his life and wife of forty nine years, Lupe Gabaldon and his eight children. David and Genisha Beaty of Los Lunas, New Mexico, Robert and Jessica Gabaldon, Anaheim Hills, California, Richard and Angela, Gabaldon, Costa Mesa, California and Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sal and Anna Gabaldon, Buckeye, Arizona, Rosie Miranda, Bell, California, Johnny and Soledad Gabaldon, City of Maricopa, Arizona, Phil Gabaldon, Robesonia, Pennsylvania, and Molly Montano, Grants, New Mexico. In addition, the family tree consists of seventy three grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Yes, 73.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on June 24, 2017, 11 am at Florence Avenue Foursquare Church, 11457 Florence Avenue, Santa Fe Springs, California 90670.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested to make a donation to the church to support the Orphanage Ministry in Mexico and the Pantry ministry.
