Alfred Lazarus Washington, Jr was born on August 2, 1961 in Pomona, California, to the late Alfred Lazarus Washington Sr and Earlene McCullouch. He was the sixth of seven children. He is proceeded in death by his sister Felicia Latrel Washington and his father Alfred Lazarus Washington, Sr.

In his early adolescent years, Al (aka Pook) was known for tattling on his other siblings, and anyone else he could. He attended North San Antonio during elementary years where he met one of his life long friends, Joseph Warren. During his attendance at Pomona high school, Al participated in sports like basketball and carried the love for basketball into his adulthood. He graduated Pomona High School in 1979 and later ventured into his real passion and love for culinary arts. He started working with his step-father, the late Alfred Gaskin and became a side-by-side assistant manager for AL's Barbeque in Pomona, California.

In 1981, he met his wife Terri Washington where they unified in a life-long partnership and shared three beautiful children: a son, Aaron Hagan and two daughters, LaTisha and Delita Washington. AL was known for loving the Lord and developed a personal connection with him over the course of his lifespan. On January 23, 2013, Al was given a second chance at life when the Lord seen him through a very traumatic heart surgery. He lived everyday with grace in his spirit and was very open to tell you about his many testimonies. He was a true believer that GOD had a plan for everyone in their life and would always see you through it all especially when you thought he was unable.

Although he is known most for his fine cuisine and cooking abilities, Al is remembered for way more than his skills in the kitchen. Even in the moments when AL could work on your nerves, he never refrained from letting the people close in his life know that they were loved and adored by him. He would call early, he never missed a birthday or a holiday. He was skilled in various pursuits and could fix just about anything you needed. Al was known as the "hustle handy-man". He was an excellent provider and made sure his family had him, especially when they needed him the most.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife: Terri Washington; his beloved son; Aaron Hagan, his loving and loyal daughters, LaTisha and Delita Washington; son/nephew, William Saunders; his grandchildren, Dana Washington, Elisha, Ari'on, and Amir Hagan. His sisters; Barbara, Charlotte "Sukie" McCullouch, Paual Simpson; two brothers, John "Fuzz" Simpson, Jr., and Keith Gaskin.

He was a very kind and loving man, a dear husband, amazing father & grandfather. He leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and countless friends. He is loved dearly for his crazy and abstract personality and the ability to make you laugh at just about anything.

Alfred's legacy is not to be mourned, on his sunset his life was celebrated by those who knew him best. He made a major impact on the lives he touched and will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
