Aloys Bernard Mauch, 92, was born in Los Angeles, Ca. and passed away at his residence in Monterey Park, Ca. surrounded by his loving family. He graduated from UCLA, where he played first base and lettered in baseball. Bernie was employed with Bethlehem Steel in Industrial Labor Relations for 40 years. He loved doing lapidary work, an art form in which he cut rocks and polished them to their natural beauty for jewelry pieces. He enjoyed his Montebello Adult jewelry class, taking care of his vegetable garden and venturing out to Dodger games.

Bernie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during WWII and was given an Honorable Discharge. He was a pilot in the 310th Bomb Group, 428 Squadron and flew Mitchell B25's. The B25's in the 57th Bomb Wing were known as the "bridge busters." Bernie was stationed in Corsica and spent his leaves around Italy, especially in Naples, Venice, Capri and south of France. Bernie received the prestigious Distinguished Flying Cross Medal. He continued to enjoy attending his 57th Bomb Wing Reunions.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery where he will be given military honors.

He was happily married to Julia Behrens on February 6, 1943 until her death in 1993. He also was predeceased by his daughter, Andrea in 1958 and son, Joe in 1990. Aloys is survived by his sons, Martin (Gloria) Mauch of Westminster, Ca. and Lawrence (Mary) Mauch of Huntington Beach. He also leaves his grandchildren, Justin (Christina) Mauch of San Francisco, Jason (Shannon) Mauch of Westminster and Kimberly (David) Barnes of Aliso Viejo, and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, James Mauch of Northern Ca. and Thomas Mauch of Colorado.
