Andres Marcelino Valdivia, known as Andy to many, was born in Juarez Mexico on April 6, 1929 to Agustin Valdivia and Juana Casas. He came from a family of six (4 boys and 2 girls). He was the youngest boy. Starting from a young age Andy had the strong passion to help others. Andy finished school in the 6th grade and immediately gave back to the children in Juarez, by teaching the 4th grade class. Andy's career began at El Palascio Chino Carabet as a waiter in Juarez Mexico where he learned to speak English by simply listening to others whom spoke the language.
Andy's favorite sport was baseball. He played various bases for Los Indios de Juarez, and was once locally recognized by the city's newspaper for making seven home runs in a row in one game. He met the love of his life, Felipa Lopez, at a dance in Juarez Mexico. It was love at first sight. They wed on Cinco de Mayo and were married for 68 years. Andy came to the United States at the age of 20 via train, to Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles. He had always been a hard worker. He acquired many jobs to provide for his family, who were always his first priority. He started his own business as a bar owner opening his first bar in Pico Union called Pico Avenue Bar. He later relocated and opened a new bar called La Gitarita in Lincoln Heights. His final relocation was in the city of El Sereno called Valdivia's. After his business career, Andy worked as a repair machinist for Sondos Company in Los Angeles, where he later retired.
Andy was a wonderful man who was very well liked by everyone he came in contact with. He had a special gift about him that made people fall in love with him. He was intelligent, caring, inventive, sharp, a handyman, a quick thinker, loving, generous, big hearted, reliable, a great dancer, the life of the party, funny, supportive, good humored, protective, and most importantly, irreplaceable. He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, his sons/daughters, Agustin Valdivia, Sonia Gonzalez, Jaime Valdivia, Sandra Valdivia, Dina Romero, Yazmin Uribe, 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
He is loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
