Augie Herrera, Jr. was born on June 27, 1941 in Los Angeles, California to Paz (Chavez) and Augustin Herrera. He married the love of his life, Loretta Deyarmond on April 5, 1963. He loved reading (especially history), watching sports, and spending time with friends and family. He loved traveling the world with Loretta. He was a loving father and grandfather, and nothing made him happier than to spending time with his grandchildren. His family was his source of pride.

Augie was the first person in his family to graduate from college. He received his Bachelors degree from Los Angeles State College, and later went on to receive his Masters degree from Cal State Los Angeles. In 1963, Augie began his distinguished career with the Los Angeles Unified School District. He taught at Hollenbeck Junior High and Taft High. He was the administrative dean and then assistant principal at Belmont High. He was the principal at Pacoima Junior High, Banning High, Belmont High, and finally Fremont High. Many former coworkers describe him as cool under fire, a man of integrity, and everything a principal and a leader should be.

Although he officially retired in 2001, Augie continued to influence the field of education. He shared his knowledge as a consultant, mentor, and lecturer. He also was an Associate Faculty Member at National University for the School of Education, Department of Educational Administrators. His leadership, professionalism, and expertise were highly valued.

Augie was instrumental in the early beginnings of his church, First Fundamental Bible Church (FFBC), and served there faithfully for over 40 years. At FFBC, Augie worked tirelessly with people of all ages. He led the efforts to fund the purchase of the current location of the church in Whittier. He was a huge supporter of Missions outreach, and strongly supported funding for missionaries. He was an elder, deacon, church board member, Sunday School teacher, teacher-trainer, advisor, conference speaker, and mentor to many in the church. His church family loved his servant's heart, love for people, stories, wisdom, and most of all his friendship.

Augie is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Herrera of Montebello, his daughter Maria (Arne) Lim of East Palo Alto; his son, Michael Herrera of Montebello; and his daughter, Anna (Eric) Salbeda of Tigard, Oregon. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stephen and Anthony Lim, both of East Palo Alto; Carissa, Jacob and Matthew Herrera, all of Whittier; and Kade and Ian Salbeda, both of Tigard. He also leaves behind his siblings, Richard (Lori) Herrera of Corona and Yolanda (Steve) Gamez of Costa Mesa.

"Well done good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord".
