Lance Corporal Carlos Alfonso Segovialopez, 19, succumbed to his wound on September 19, 2016. He is survived by his mother, Sandra Jeanette Lopez Juarez of Los Angeles, his father, Martin Francisco Segovia Coto of El Salvador and his sisters, Cynthia Elizabeth Fuentes Lopez & Liliana Stephanie Fuentes, both of Los Angeles and LA on Cloud 9 “Cloud 9ers”.

Carlos was born in El Salvador and at the age of 5, he and his mother moved to Los Angeles. He attended Menlo Elementary School, Weems Elementary School and then James A. Foshay Learning Center in South Los Angeles. During his time at Foshay, Carlos was a part of Neighborhood Academic Initiative (NAI) and Troy Camp as a young camper and later as a volunteer, both programs were at the University of Southern California.

His passion for giving back to his community flourished and Carlos joined LA on Cloud 9, who help homeless people and animals in need. Here, Carlos enhanced his leadership skills by leading by example and assisted in creating Cloud 9’s Teen Project. In his search to give back to more people, Carlos enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Upon graduating from Marine Corps Boot Camp, Carlos was named Honor Graduate. During his short but illustrious Marine Corps career, Carlos excelled and quickly promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. He continued, when on weekend leave to Los Angeles, to volunteer and at times highly encouraged other Marines to join him. His energy, mischief, kindness and zest for life are what his family and friends will remember most. Carlos touched the hearts of many and he will be profoundly missed by all. Semper Fidelis Young Warrior, Semper Fidelis…
