Charles Henry Schmidt – November 3, 1957 to July 8, 2021
Charles, more affectionately known as Chuck, passed away on July 8th due to heart failure and other complications at Riverside Kaiser Medical Center. He was 63 years old. He was born to Robert (Bob) and Rose Schmidt in Torrance, CA, but spent his childhood in Fullerton, CA. He graduated from Fullerton Union High School in 1975, then chose to enlist in the Army right after graduating. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, trained as a Cartographic Draftsman, and was honorably discharged in 1978. He worked as an engineering draftsman for a few different companies before starting at Eastern Municipal Water District, where he remained for the rest of his working career, retiring in 2006 as a Senior Engineer. In February of 1986 he married Lynda Damos, to whom he was married for thirty-one years. They had two sons, Robert (Robby) in 1986 and Nicholas (Nick) in 1993.
Baseball was a huge part of Chuck’s life. Chuck spent many years, from childhood to middle-age, playing baseball and later softball with different leagues and friends. His 40th birthday was even a giant baseball bash with a bunch of his friends and family. He also coached his sons on their little league teams over many years, from when Robert was 6 until Nick entered into tournament teams at 12. Disneyland was always his favorite place to go, too, whether young or old. He took his family to Disneyland for their vacation every year.
Chuck had many friends with whom he always had fond memories. He was a caring man and would lend a listening ear or helping hand wherever he could. He is survived by his two children, Robert (Kimberly) and Nick, along with his sisters, Linda (Rick) and Barbara, and his brother, William (Margaret). He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Rose. A graveside memorial will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery.
