Charles William Shopfner was born on September 21, 1931 in Fort Smith, Arkansas and passed away in Lynwood, Ca. on March 31, 2011 following a lengthy illness.

Charles was a business owner and upholsterer for 52 years. He was President of the Rio Hondo Rotary Club in 1988-89 and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an Al Malaikah Shriner of Los Angeles, a Mason in the Golden Trowel of Norwalk, Lodge #273 & in the Scottish Rite, Belle of Long Beach. Charles was also a Toastmaster in So. Gate and attended the First Baptist Church of Downey for 22 years. His love was to be with his family and he enjoyed running & walking in 10K races.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Lajunta of Lynwood, his son and daughter-in-law, David Lee & Joy Shopfner of Lakewood, and his daughter, Rhonda Lyn Shopfner of Lynwood. He also leaves his grandson, Joshua Charles Shopfner and his grandaughter and her husband, Suzanne Elizabeth & Matthew Herzberg, 2 great grandchildren and his brother & sister-in-law, Jerry & Joyce Shopfner of Huntington Beach.

A Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 11:00am at the First Baptist Church of Downey, with a reception following. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
