Chizuko Tanaka, 87, was born in Los Angeles, Ca. on June 28, 1926 and passed away in Gardena, Ca. on August 21, 2013. She was born to Heijiro Tanaka and Shima Okajima, both born in Japan. Chizuko's last occupation was as a security guard for approximately 5 years.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 11:00am at the First Baptist Church of Downey Chapel, 8348 3rd St., Downey, Ca.
Chizuko's favorite place to visit was Las Vegas and she loved to play craps. She also liked to go to local casinos and play Pan 9. She liked doing word search puzzles and playing Jingo (it is like bingo, but with using things other than numbers). Chizuko was very artistic. She liked to sew and embroider. She embroidered the eagle from the Eagles album onto a jean jacket for her son, Dan and it was beautiful. Chizuko used to make leather purses by hand and sell them. She would cut the hide, dye it, punch holes for the stitching, paint on decorations, braid a handle and lace them up.
Chizuko is survived by her loving family, her children, Doreen Fournier of Gardena, Kathy Markey of Imperial Beach, Eileen Oda of Los Angeles, Rodney Sung of Downey and Dan Oda of Little Rock, Ca. She also leaves 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and her brothers, Henry Tanaka of Oxnard, Ca., Teruo Tanaka of Sun City, AZ., and Akira Tanaka of Westchester, Ca., and her sisters, Hideko Kanamori of Los Angeles, Ca. and Misako Burton of Somis, Ca. She is predeceased by her siblings, Tadao and Shig Tanaka.
