Darius Joe Michau, servant of the Most High God, and witness for Jesus Christ, was born into this world on February 27th, 1957 in El Dorado, Arkansas. Just 5 years later, as a young child, he was born again, accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, being raised in a Christ centered home by Garland and Billie Jean Michau.
In 1962, the family moved to Norwalk California, then in 1964 purchased their home on Carfax St in Bellflower. Darius was raised there with brothers Mike and Nick, and sisters Vickie and Susie, and would live in that home for 45 years until his mothers passing.
Darius was an extremely accomplished young man, especially in athletics. At Bellflower High School, Darius was honored by his graduating class as Athlete of the Year. He was an All League Defensive End and Wide Receiver on the football team, playing both offense and defense.
In track and field, Darius ran several sprint events, but was most accomplished at the shot put. In his senior year, he was defeated only once in this event, and had top throws during state competition.
Darius attended Cerritos College, the University of Arkansas, and Azusa Pacific College, where he played football, but more importantly finished his Degree and Certifications for Christian Ministry.
Over the course of his life, it was always clear that Darius belonged to God. But Ecclesiastes describes a season called "rejoicing in thy youth", and Darius did explore it, FULLY! He was a skydiver, a snorkeler, a surfer, sailor, race car driver, and motorcycle rider. And he did them all fearlessly. And during it all, Darius shared Jesus wherever he went. From Crescent Bay in Laguna to prison cells in Chino, he shared the Lord. He travelled to South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East as an Ambassador for Christ, building churches, schools and orphanages, and teaching countless classes and seminars, and preaching from streets and pulpits.
Darius was an amazing friend, and a stranger to no one. He was always smiling. If you know him at all, you were the subject of hilarious practical jokes and pranks. He was known as "Uncle Darius" to everyone's children who knew him. He was gracious and generous, and helped anyone in need. Countless times he employed people in his construction projects or odd jobs, giving you both paycheck and your dignity. Other times he simply paid a bill, dropped off groceries, or delivered furniture or appliances to help a family in need.
Darius strived in every way to be like Jesus, so it was no surprise to anyone that he was a carpenter, and then a general contractor. He built churches, homes, restaurants, shopping centers, class rooms and orphanages all over the world. But mostly, Darius built up people, teaching them the "way of the Lord", and building the church. If Darius could talk to you now, he would tell you of Jesus, and ask you if you would accept Him as Lord and Savior, receiving God's Gift of Eternal Life.
Darius always thought of himself as a "B.T.R.", Bachelor Till the Rapture! But God knew otherwise.
At the young age of 50, Darius met the 2nd Great Love of his life. He met and married Trisha Escalera. After their wedding, Darius took on a new countenance. He looked totally happy and complete. She was his constant companion and fellow warrior in ministry. Together, they achieved great things for Christ, teaching ministry, counselling pre marriage and married couples, instructing in recovery ministries, and teaching and counselling in all areas of Christian Life. Darius and Trish were totally committed to loving all of God's children in faith teaching, ministry, caring and generosity, and Trish remains in the commitment today.
Darius served at Calvary Chapel Downey for more than 30 years, where he was a Pastor until his home-going on November 18th, 2020.
