Dorothy Elaine Whitman, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, in Downey, California. Born on December 4, 1930, in Decatur, Illinois, she lived a life dedicated to her family and her work. For over twenty years, Dorothy served as a legal secretary in a law office, where her dedication and meticulous attention to detail earned the respect of her colleagues and clients alike.
Dorothy was a cherished matriarch, known for her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support of her family. She leaves behind her three daughters: Kathy Hichborn (Geoffrey) of Tennessee, Lisa Ives (John), and Annette Daniel (Michael), both of Downey. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, who were a source of immense joy to her: Marni Woods (Nathan) of Yorba Linda, Adam Hichborn (Ann) of Virginia, Geoffrey Hichborn (Hera) of San Francisco, Kristen Bere (Simba) of Tennessee, Thomas Ives (Mariana) of Corona, Trisha Dodd (Josiah) of Temecula, Darcy Reichert of Montana, and Eric Reichert (Rosie) of Santa Margarita.
Dorothy was also blessed with the love of 24 great-grandchildren, along with two nieces, one nephew, and numerous great nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her deeply.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Kenneth E. Whitman, her brother, Thomas P. Allen II, and her granddaughter, Jennifer Einstoss. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
In her passing, Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion, having touched the lives of many through her familial devotion and her professional integrity. She will be remembered for her warm smile, her unwavering support, and her vibrant spirit.
