Edith Elaine Johnson, 66, was born in Los Angeles, Ca. on September 16, 1946 and passed away in Whittier, Ca. on November 6, 2012 from a lengthy illness.
Edie loved country music. She also loved riding in her convertible with the top down, heater turned up and her tunes blasting. She loved going to lunch with friends and weekly Thursday breakfast with husband Russ. Edie also enjoyed Bunko with the ladies and Dominoes with friends
Edie had a passion for young pregnant women in crisis, and the lives of the unborn. For many years she volunteered as a counselor at the LivingHelp Center, a pregnancy resource center in Downey, CA.
Edie loved to watch old classic movies and chick flicks. Among her favorites was "50 First Dates". She watched that movie over and over and over. She also liked old TV programs such as "Leave it to Beaver", "M.A.S.H." and "Matlock". She enjoyed Sudoku and solitaire on the computer.
She had a very special love for her children and grandchildren. In 1 Corinthians 13, the Bible describes to a "T" the love Edie had for her family.
It says:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Downey. Please wear yellow to the Memorial Service to celebrate Edi in her favorite color.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Russ Johnson of Downey, her daughter Jennifer (David) Johnson Rodriguez of Wahiawa, Hawaii and her grandchildren, Cade Martinez, Sasha and Jonah Rodriguez, all of Hawaii. She also leaves her sister, Loring Myers-Jacobs of the Inland Empire and her brothers, Nick Jacobs of Claremont and Phillip Jacobs of Tucson, Az. and numerous nieces and nephews.
