Edna Eugenia Grant, affectionately also, Edna Terri Noroski Mendoza, was born September 18, 1935 in Lima, Peru and passed away peacefully December 29, 2022 in Los Angeles, California.

She was born to her late father Lemuel Paul Grant, an inventor of the decorative intaglio tile method (US patent, 1964), entrepreneur and activist for multi-racial community inclusion in Southern California during 1940s-1950s and to her late mother Dolores Syvella Grant, devoted wife, mother, aunt and grandmother.

She was diverse in her family and life. Her early childhood education was in Mexico. She then attended Mission High School in San Gabriel, California, where she reigned as Queen of La Fiesta de San Gabriel. She became an elementary school teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District, dedicated to underserved populations, with a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles.

As widow to Leonard Noroski* (1961) and Arthur Mendoza* (2010), she has endearing surviving (& in memory*) family: her children and their spouses with her grandchildren, Lenora Mendoza Noroski (spouse, Frank Inselbuch with children Ilana and Isaac Noroski Inselbuch); Anthony Mendoza (spouse, Cindy Del Valle Mendoza with children Kevin and Katy Mendoza); and Steven Mendoza (spouse, Livvy Livier Mendoza with children Samuel and Joseph Mendoza); her nieces and nephews: Linda, Leonard and Nicholas Grant (parents, Carmelita and Paul Grant*; Laura and Richard Noroski (parents, Daniel and Jean Noroski; aunt, Mary Louise Noroski*); Sherry Mendoza Uribe (SMU children: Michele, Sarah and Andrew Mendoza) and Michael Mendoza (MM children: Veronica and Marianne Mendoza); (SMU & MM parents, William Mendoza* and Kinga Mendoza*); cousins: Rosemary and David Mendoza (parents, Rudy Mendoza* and Maxine Mendoza*); with inclusion of all of her/our loving extended family with heartfelt sentiments.

Of her life experiences, educational endeavors and talented practices, she was an advocate for healthy living and positive thinking, enjoyed dance, piano, gardening and tai chi, was an avid Star Trek fan and also studied as a pilot, to fly private aircrafts. She exercised an enthusiasm for worldly learning of languages, music and cultures and was committed to teaching with curiosity, courage and initiative, all the while giving of herself with kindness and love to her family, friends, students and communities.

She lived a life of gratitude, humanism, love and persistence. Her mindfulness was ever-present. She was gentle with understanding and connectedness. She wore such a beautiful smile with an inclusive, loving heart and an appreciation for a universe greater than we know.

May the tranquility, mindfulness, love and beauty of Edna Terri Noroski Mendoza be for our loving memory and a blessing for us all, forevermore.
