Edythe Jeanne Segrest
December 28, 1933 — January 7, 2022
Edythe Jeanne Segrest, best known as Jeanne, was born on December 28, 1933 to Jere and Susan Edythe Horsley, on a small ranch in Meeker, Colorado. Jeanne had a sunny disposition and positive attitude even when faced with adversity. At a young age she contracted polio and was forced to wear leg braces. At this time, she and her younger brother, Jere, were placed in an orphanage for a number of years until they were reunited with their father and stepmother, Cleo Horsley, whom she adored.
In 1952, while frolicking with her friends on a beach in California, a simple smile from a handsome young man in an Air Force uniform changed her life forever. This day started a 65-year Love Affair and brought her the joy and happiness she always dreamed of. She married George Ernest Segrest in 1953. They purchased the home that they would remain in for the next 50 years in La Mirada, California and started their family. They had three children: Kathryn, Michael, and Timothy.
She was a devout Christian and wonderful mother. Volunteering as a helper at her kids’ Elementary School gave her great pleasure. She loved doing arts and crafts, traveling, and especially playing games, from cards to bingo to Laughlin. She loved murder mysteries, romance novels, and collecting giraffes. She was a people person; she worked in retail at the Broadway in Downey, California for over 20 years. She could talk the paint off the walls. She definitely had the Gift of Gab!
She passed away in Murrieta, California on January 7, 2022 in the presence of her family. She was 88 years old. She will be greatly missed and loved forever. Her Legacy will live on in all our hearts.
