Eileen Lafferty passed away on December 13, 2018. She was born in 1926, a devoted daughter, to Ethel and Howard Ball of Long Beach where she was raised and attended LB Poly High. Eileen is survived by her three children; Sydney Pringle, Russell Sutliff and Randy Brooks, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was loved and admired by her family and friends.
Eileen graduated from UC Berkeley and was affiliated with Alpha Chi Omega. With her journalism and art background, Eileen’s diversified career included writing feature articles for both the San Francisco Chronicle and Long Beach Press Telegram in addition to her tenure as a writer for Long Beach Parks & Recreation and Litton Industries. A much-enjoyed career, also included working as a public relations specialist for the Port of Long Beach. Her typewriter, camera and sketch pad were never far from reach. Eileen’s talents eventually culminated in the accomplishment of two cookbooks; she successfully wrote and illustrated for fledging cooks.
For over eighty years, Eileen attended St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. She was an active member of the Assistance League of Long Beach, Long Beach Soroptimist and the Long Beach Yacht Club.
For her family and friends, there was not a single day that did not include aspects of adventure, discovery, entertaining and listening to jazz. Eileen had the ability to touch those around her with a penchant for life; namely her creativity, wit, and tenacity. She was a powerhouse! Eileen and her husband, Jim Lafferty, spent many joyful years together, embraced by family and good friends.
Eileen’s creative genius and zest for life have been greatly missed. She will remain in our hearts always.
