George Ernest Segrest was born on March 4th, 1930 in Tuskegee, Alabama, to proud, yet humble sharecroppers James and Bessie. The third of five children, his entire family worked hard to balance school and tending the fields.
After High School, George proudly joined the Air Force, working in security. Always putting family first, he once sold his newly purchased car, in order to pay for his sister's surgery. Always sacrificing, never complaining.
One day, while on leave from the Air Force, during an outing to a beach in California, who would of known a flirtatious wave from a pretty girl in a passing car, would start a 65 year love story.
After marrying "his angel" Jeanne in 1953, he left the Air Force and joined the Seabees and was with the naval reserves for 26 years, until he retired with honors.
Together, George and Jeanne raised three children, while he worked in telecommunications for 45 years.
George was a strong, yet selfless man that lived for God, Country and his family. He was a good provider and Hands-On father, always participating in clubs and sports activities. Later in life, he loved singing karaoke with his daughter and grandchildren.
Committed to his walk with God, he was a deacon, sponsored children overseas and in Texas, worked with Stephen Ministries, counseling prisoners. He was always thinking of others.
On May 1st, 2019 the Lord decided Georges' work was done and it was time for him to come home at 89 years of age.
George will be greatly missed by all who loved him. His legacy of family, love and values will live in our family's hearts and souls, for generations to come!
George is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jeanne Segrest of Sherman, Texas, his daughter, Kathryn Camp (Melvin) of Sherman, Texas, and his sons, Michael Ernest Segrest (Denise) of Wildomar, California, and Tim George Segrest (Teri) of Yuma, Arizona.
