Gonzalo Salazar Banuelos, 81, was born on January 10, 1943, in Zacatecas, Mexico to Eduardo Banuelos and Josefa Salazar. During his early years, he participated in Charreadas as a Charro. He was considered one of the best Charros in his hometown, El Salitrillo. He especially loved his beautiful horse, Plebeyo.

He met his wife Mariana Valdez and they got married in 1964. Gonzalo sold his beloved horse and other possessions to move to California where they began their family. Gonzalo held various jobs and ultimately landed employment at Apex Meat Company, where he worked for over 20 years as a butcher.

Gonzalo is survived by his beautiful wife, Mariana Banuelos. They were married for 60 years. Their oldest son is Edward Banuelos, followed by Arturo Banuelos, Rene Banuelos, and their only daughter Claudia. Gonzalo had 3 daughter-in-laws and 1 son in law: Gloria Banuelos. Blanca Banuelos, Marisela Banuelos, and Joe Sanchez. Between the four siblings, Gonzalo was blessed with his 9 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, 3 great-granddaughters, and 2 great-grandsons.

Gonzalo will best be remembered spending time with family, playing cards and enjoying a barbecue on the weekends. He treasured time with his children and had many birthdays/celebrations to attend for his grandchildren, who he was so proud of. He was blessed to later become a great-grandfather

When he was not with family, Gonzalo enjoyed watching old Mexican western movies (Antonio Aguilar, Pedro Infante, etc.) meeting friends every morning at the Yum Yum Donut shop, and watching the Dodgers. He also traveled to his hometown of El Salitrillo, Zacatecas every year until his health would not allow for it.

Gonzalo had a great sense of humor despite suffering from a rare form of leukemia - he never complained about his illness, and he was a fighter until the end. Gonzalo peacefully entered into eternal life on July 27, 2024, in Maywood, California surrounded by his loved ones.
