Humberto "Bert" Salgado, 87, was born in Texas on March 12, 1926 and passed away at his residence in Montebello on February 17, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Bert was a floor installer for 40 years in the flooring industry. He served his country proudly in United States Army during World War II and was given an Honorable Discharge.
The family wrote the following:
On Monday evening, February 17th we lost the Patriarch of our family. A Father, a Grandfather, a Great-Grandfather, a Father-in-Law and a true friend. These are difficult times, a time of grief and sorrow. The sense of loss is real.
That evening, as we stood in Bert's apartment, we stood in the presence of a brave man. He had seen action in war and faced challenges in peace. The words of a Viking prayer came to mind.
"Lo, there do I see my Father and my Mother.
Lo, there do I see my brothers and my sisters.
Lo, there do I see the line of my ancestors back to the beginning.
Lo, they do call to me,
They bid me join them,
In the halls of Valhalla
Where the brave may live forever.
May the Angels Guide and Guard you Bert Salgado..
No funeral services are scheduled at this time and Mr. Salgado will be interred in a cemetery in LaUnion, New Mexico.
Bert is survived by his son, Oscar (Carmen) Salgado of Rowland Hts and his daughter, Belinda (Peter) Salgado-Freeman of Duarte. He also leaves his grandsons, Peter (Leah) Salgado of Brea, Michael Salgado of Rowland Hts., Rhodri Freeman and Oscar "Rhys" Freeman, both of Duarte. Bert is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Petra Salgado and his 3 siblings.
