John "Jack" Arnold Hiveley, 80, was born in Watford City, ND on October 31, 1933 and passed away in Downey, CA on June 5, 2014. Jack was previously a Principal in the Norwalk La Mirada Unified School District and had been with the school district for 29 years.
Jack's hobbies were gardening and being out in nature, riding dirt bikes, camping with family and friends and family time with his brothers and sister and their families. Almost every summer while his children were growing up, they went to Oregon/Washington for vacations. He enjoyed his motor airplanes, building and flying them. He loved spending time at Hume Lake and was involved with youth ministry anytime he could. He and his wife, Barbara traveled together, played tennis together and dirt bike rode together. For one of their anniversaries, they went on a special trip to Alaska. Jack played softball in the early 70's and while he batted left handed, he pitched right handed. He lived in Corvallis, Oregon from approximately age 6 to 18 and moved to California when he graduated from High School. He went to Biola University and received his Bachelor's degree in 1963. He went on to earn his Master's Degree from Long Beach. Jack loved to read books besides the Bible. He was very patient, never complained, always seemed to have a smile on his face.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Downey. Interment will follow at a later date at Riverside National Cemetery. Jack proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1957 and was given an Honorable Discharge.
