John A. Holcomb peacefully passed away on his sixty-fifth wedding anniversary, April 15, 2015, at the age of eighty-seven, in the house that his Grandfather built. After eighty-four years of excellent health, John experienced a heart attack and a broken hip on June 21, 2012. Following his hip replacement and pacemaker surgeries he made a rapid recovery. However, a few month ago he began to decline.
In South Gate, California, on March 10, 1928, their only child, a healthy baby boy, John Alvin was born to Lauriano "Loudie" Alvin and Margaret Aylward Holcomb.
John began his early education at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School in Maywood, California and proceeded to graduation at Bell High School, Bell, California. John enlisted in the United States Navy and served two years on the USS Valley Forge Aircraft Carrier. Upon his return to civilian life he completed his Associate of Arts degree at East Los Angles College in Monterey Park, California. From there he matriculated to the University of Southern California majoring in civil engineering. Entering the world of business John founded his own building materials transport company Aggregate Transport; and he reluctantly retired at the age of eighty!
Throughout his life he shared his exuberant spirit and love of life with one and all. He dedicated himself to his beautiful wife Jacquelyn, his five children Deborah, Sheila, Jacquelyn, Alan, and Marshal, plus his three grandchildren Candice, David, and Jonathan. Most notably he extended his loyalty, generosity and friendship to everyone he met.
John A. Holcomb is preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is mourned by his wife, children, grandchildren, and all who knew his generous spirit.
