JOSEPHINE PARTIDA was born to Guillermo and Frances Torrez on 8/29/30 in Los Angeles, California. She was the second of five sisters: Mary Ann, Jessie, Rita and Socorro (“Sukie”) who moved with their parents to Soledad and Greenfield until the family settled in San Jose, California when Josephine was 17.

In 1949, at age 19, Josephine entered a city pageant and won the title of Beauty Queen of San Jose. During the competition process, Josephine met her future husband to be, Max Gutierrez, a local Spanish radio announcer.

Josephine gave birth to five children: Aracely, Rachel, Blanch, Oscar and Roy. Eventually she would become a grandmother, great grandmother and a great-great grandmother.

Josephine worked as an Electronics Assembler of circuit boards for nearly 40 years and was employed by aerospace industry companies such as Hughes and McDonald Douglas during her career. Josephine frequently requested the industry graveyard shift so she could be available and spend time with her children during the day.

Josephine also had exceptional domestic skills and could embroider and crochet beautiful pieces still cherished by family and friends who were the lucky recipients of her abilities. She was also an excellent cook well-known for her skills with herbs and spices. Her culinary talents were instinctive and she never wrote down her recipes. When asked for the proportions of her seasonings, Josephine would smile and reply: “a little of this and a little of that....”

Although only 4' 10", Josephine enjoyed playing basketball in her youth, and throughout her life, liked watching golf and basketball and in her final years, soccer. She also enjoyed watching television game shows such as “The Price Is Right” and “Jeopardy”. Josephine also loved to go the horse races, and was very lucky at the track. She had no special method, but always won choosing her horses by their colors. She also enjoyed gambling at the local casino’s where her lucky streak continued.

Throughout her life, Josephine loved music and dancing. Her favorite performers were Jose Jose, and Javier Solis.

One strong desire of Josephine’s was to visit Hawaii during her life. In 2014, that wish came true when she visited Maui with daughters Aracely, Blanch and her grandson, James Robert to celebrate her birthday. It was an unforgettable celebration for them all.

After her divorce from Max, Josephine married in her later years ANTONIO PARTIDA, an old family friend and they remained married until her demise in 2018.

Josephine loved to have roses and orchids, especially “Philanopisia” orchids” around her. Her favorite colors to wear were beige and peach tones and she wore them often. She would want her loved ones to remember her wearing those soft becoming colors.

Josephine wants her many family members and friends to know how much she enjoyed her life and that they all had a part in filling it with joy, love, and wonderful memories.
