Jovita Carrera Martinez was born on February 15, 1928 in Avalon on Catalina Island in California and entered into eternal rest on March 25, 2021 in Arcadia, California, surrounded by her loving family. She passed away peacefully and of natural causes at 93 years of age. Jovita is the only survivor of her 3 brothers and sisters. She was married to Emilio Martinez for 68 beautiful years and had 6 children, 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Jovita was a homemaker most of her life raising her 6 children and then worked later in life as a cook for the Montebello Unified School District. As a child on Catalina Island she would dance as the Catalina boat docked on the Island for the visitors. She worked for a few businesses in her younger years until she met Emilio and they wed. She would love to cook for her family and shared many stories about Catalina Island up until she passed away.
She raised her family in Monterey Park for almost all of her life and recently moved to Arcadia after Emilio passed away in 2018.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who was an excellent cook and taught all of her children her special family recipes. She came from a big family and was a favorite Aunt of many.
Jovita is survived by her loving family: Daughter, Vibiana Gonzalez, Son, Martin Martinez, Daughter, Erlinda Morehead, Son, Philip Martinez, Daughter, Irene Villapania, Grandchildren, Jessica, Shannon, Alyssa, Sabrina, Robert, Dillon, Quinn, Elizabeth and Joe, along with other family and friends who will miss her dearly. She was met at Heaven's Gate by her husband, Emilio Martinez and her son, Victor Martinez.
