Julio Hernandez, 89, was born in Ometepe Island, Nicaragua on October 6, 1923 and passed away in Los Angeles on May 6, 2013.
Mr. Hernandez was an accountant for more than 70 years, beginning his career with the First National Bank of Nicaragua, and was self-employed as an accountant and Notary Public for the rest of his life. Mr. Hernandez held various positions through his accounting career and has worked in the polyurethane manufacturing industry for 15 years for such companies as Shelley Foam, Stauffer Chemicals, American Urethane Foam, and United Foam Corporation. He held numerous accounting positions: accountant, senior accountant, chief accountant and finally Assistant Controller. During this period he was self employed working at home in the evenings and weekends doing bookkeeping for local small businesses. He was also a tax preparer throughout the income tax season. In his later years, he became an independent accounting consultant working for Southern California Erectors, LA Metro Rail and Account Temps. He continued working until his health declined this year.

Mr. Hernandez was an avid reader and always told the family that he was a "student of history". There was never a time when he was not reading several books spanning different genres, religious, fiction and non-fiction in particular biographies and history. He grew up on a farm and never lost his love of animals, horses and dogs. He leaves behind his beloved chow, Midnite.

A Visitation Service will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Risher Montebello Mortuary Chapel & Reception Center, with a Vigil service beginning at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 9:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 407 S. Chicago St., Los Angeles, 90033 with burial following at Resurrection Cemetery in Montebello.

Mr. Hernandez is survived by his wife, Maria Cristina Alvarez of Los Angeles and her children Ashly and Randy Alvarado, sons Mauricio (Nancy) Hernandez of Goodyear, AZ, Roberto (Naty) Chevez of Baldwin Park, Jay Albert Julio (Helen) Hernandez of La Center, WA, a daughter Cecilia (Jim) Monachello of Brea, and a sister, Sister Trinita of the Order of the Oblates (Bertha Baeza) of Maryland. Mr. Hernandez also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
