Karl Dobler, a beloved husband, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, passed away on November 24, 2024, in Monterey Park, California. Born on September 25, 1933, in Salzburg, Austria, to Caecilia and Heinrich Dobler, Karl lived a life full of adventure, dedication, and warmth.
Karl's journey began in Salzburg, where he honed his skills as a hairstylist, a trade that would take him across Europe and the United States. His career started in Austria as an apprentice allowing him the opportunity to move to Switzerland in 1952, followed by a much-loved stint in Spain from 1958 to 1960. In 1960, he moved to Chicago, where he continued to develop his craft until 1969 when he settled in Los Angeles. There, he owned a men's hairstyling studio, earning a reputation for his friendliness, expertise, and unwavering commitment to his clients. Karl loved to tell of encountering famous people he had been privileged to meet throughout his career. Karl retired from the hair studio in 2021 after making certain his customers would have access to continued great service.
Karl cherished his family and frequently traveled back to Salzburg to visit them. An avid skier until age 84, he was actively involved in ski clubs, serving as President for many years. His love for sports extended to ice hockey and golf, and he was known for his outgoing and charming personality. Karl's ability to connect with people, offering friendship, kindness, and optimism, left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Marlene; mother-in-law Hildegard Schmid; brother-in-law Hans Kurz; sister-in-law Cindi Sylvester; nieces Maria (Kurz) Gruber, Anna Kurz, and Jennifer Bailey; nephews Johannes Kurz, Henry Dobler, and Christoph Dobler; cousins Inge, Gaby, Daniela and Ronald Schall. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Anna Kurz, and brother Heinrich Dobler.
Karl Dobler will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
