Leone E. Bies, 95, was born in Pierre, South Dakota on October 14, 1916 and passed away peacefully at her residence in Montebello on January 20, 2012.

Leone was the owner of Dan's Machine Works, a tooling and manufacturing company for 59 years.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and had a 43 year romance with her husband, Aberhard, who predeceased her. Leone was raised on a farm and was a teacher in a one room schoolhouse in South Dakota. She later was a substitute teacher for Fremont Elementary, St. Benedict's School and Washington Elementary School.

Leone was President of the Beverly Hospital Guild in 1973 and a member since 1963. She had given 48 years of service to this organization and has been recognized numerous times for over 39,000 hours of faithful service to the hospital. She was also a member of the Montebello Woman's Club & is an Honorary Life Member of the Club. She was also involved with other organizations: Montebello Veteran's of Foreign Wars, Montebello Historical Society, Past President of the Catholic Daughters #1520, St. Benedict's Altar Society Board Member, Montebello American Legion Auxiliary & Honorary Life Member.

With all the volunteering Leone was involved with, she did manage to have hobbies such as crocheting, sewing, crafting with clay oil painting and reading. She loved singing and gardening.

A Vigil service will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 6:00pm at St. Benedict Church, followed by a viewing time at the church until 8:00pm. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 9:00am at St. Benedict Church with interment following at Resurrection Cemetery.

She is survived by her son, John Bies of Montebello, 3 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased not only by her husband, but by her daughter, Lynn Marie Bies and her son, James Patrick Bies .


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Benedict Church or the Beverly Hospital Guild Remembrance Fund or the Beverly Hospital Foundation.
