Margaret Julia Horan Bertiz was born to Tom and Eleanor Horan on February 9th 1948 in Santa Paula, California. The family moved to Hammond, Indiana for a short stay then back to California where Margaret and her family resided in Westchester. She attended Visitation Elementary, St. Bernard High School, and later received her Bachelor's Degree from UCLA in 1971. She married Duane Bertiz from Montebello, CA in 1971 and lived in Inglewood where she began her teaching career at St. John Chrysostom. Shortly thereafter they moved to Santa Ana, CA where Margaret continued to teach at Park Private Day School for the next 10 years.
In 1976, Margaret and Duane purchased their new home in Orange, CA. The remaining time of her remarkable 42 year first grade teaching career was completed at St. Justin Martyr of Anaheim where she retired in June of 2013. She loved to travel, read, garden, and raise Shetland Sheep Dogs. Margaret lived such and extraordinarily, loving, humble, and dedicated her life to many people and children whose lives were so positively touched. She leaves behind her loving husband Duane of 45 married years, sister Cathy Horan Cox of Tustin, CA and cousins Mary Louis Cronin Dorsey of Carson City, NV and Patrick Cronin and wife Mary of Arcadia, CA.
