Anita Martinez was born to Pedro and Nellie Martinez on September 26th, 1938, in Montebello, California. She entered eternal rest on May 10th, 2023, at the age of 84, surrounded by her loving family at her bedside in San Pedro, California.
Mary Ann (Annie) Zepeda is survived by her 3 children and stepson. Her son, Ralph Zepeda, daughters, Ann Helen Herran (Frank), and Susan McIlwaine (Terry), stepson William Leandro Zepeda Jr. (Delvina), as well as her 8 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mary Ann (Annie) grew up in Chavez Ravine, on Paducah Street, where the Dodger Stadium is now. Her home stood where 2nd base is now located, in the neighborhood of Palo Verde. She went to Palo Verde Elementary School and attended the Queen of Angels Catholic High School. Later she took some English courses at El Rancho High – Adult School in Pico Rivera, California.
Mary Ann (Annie) married William Leandro Zepeda not once, but twice. Their Civil marriage was on June 1st, 1957, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and entered Holy Matrimony on August 31st, 1957, at the Our Lady of the Bright Mount church, in Los Angeles. They were married for 20 years before they got divorced. Although Mary Ann (Annie) never remarried, she had a long-term relationship with Jerry McIntyre for more than 15 years and remained good friends till his passing on January 10th, 2020. In Mary Ann’s later years, she went to live with her daughter Susan McIlwaine, Terry, Kassandra, and their dog Luna, whom she loved very much.
Mary Ann (Annie) had several jobs throughout her life. She worked in the Pharmacy at Woolworth Department store, then worked from home for a period of time, followed by her job at Kmart for over 20 years, and lastly as a Greeter for the Royal Caribbean cruise line at the Port of Los Angeles, which she enjoyed very much.
Mary Ann (Annie) was active at her children’s high school, by being a part of the PTA club, a Marine Corps ROTC chaperone, and enjoyed eating at the officer’s club. In Pico Rivera, she was also involved in her neighborhood Girls Club with her best friends Jessie Torres, Carlie, and Rachel.
Mary Ann (Annie) loved her family and was always there for them. She loved to laugh, travel, watch the planes, receive flowers, and later in life, her frequent visits from Bobby Mendez.
Mary Ann (Annie) has joined her family in heaven, with her mother and father, 3 sisters, Queta, Sarah, Thomasa, and her brother, Pete. She will be greatly missed and may she have eternal peace.
