Melvin Louis Brandstetter, 71, was born on April 16, 1942 in Los Angeles, California and passed away on November 1, 2013 in Rosemead, California.

Mr. Brandstetter bravely served our country as a Senior Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force for over 22 years, earning an Honorable Discharge for the sacrifices he made for our nation's freedom. During his military career, he toured the world, including being stationed in various places such as Germany, Vietnam, the Phillipines and Thailand, with his final duty station being Los Angeles Air Force Station, Space Command. Melvin was a decorated Veteran of the Vietnam War, although you would rarely catch him boasting about his commendations. He was, however, particularly proud of receiving the Meritorious Service medal, which was rarely earned by non-commissioned officers. After Melvin retired from the military, he went to work in the computer industry, working with companies such as Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America and Reynolds & Reynolds. He also continued with his own company, Computer Express, which helped lead to the creation of the family owned business, Flying Tiger Entertainment, which is still in business today.

In addition to the pride he had for his accomplishments during his military service, he held just as much pride in his accomplishments as a husband and father. Melvin was married to the love of his life, Janet for 47 years. He and Jan loved to travel and went on many cruises throughout the world together. She preceded him in death in March 2013. Melvin always loved to have his family around him and received great joy from watching his many grandchildren play. He would do almost anything for his family, as they meant the world to him. Melvin also had great friends during his lifetime, which he considered to be family too. At the top of this list was his lifelong friend, Kenneth (Jeanette) Vanderbok, who was by his side almost daily in the end.

Mr. Brandstetter leaves behind his loving family: sons John Clayton (Gina) Brandstetter of Montclair, James Christian (Christina) Brandstetter of Rosemead, Joseph Carl Brandstetter of Dallas, TX, Jacob Carlyle Brandstetter also of Rosemead, and daughter Janet Catherine (Patrick) Gleason of Montebello. He also leaves his beloved nine grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 5:00-9:00 pm in the Risher Montebello Mortuary Chapel & Reception Center with the Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 9:00 am at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Interment will follow with full Military Honors at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd., Whittier.
