Our family is heartbroken to announce the passing of Michael “Mike” Severo Garcia, who left us at the age of 52. Mike will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who cherished his unique spirit and warmth.
He is survived by his loving parents, Jodi Truhan and Thomas Garcia; his stepfather, Wayne Truhan; his brother, Mathew; his sisters, Ann and Tiffany; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who will carry his memory in their hearts.
Mike was known for his big, radiant smile—though he rarely let it show in photographs. To know Mike was to know his passion for film, a love that defined much of his life. Whether he was watching a classic on the silver screen or creating his own stories, Mike poured his heart into the craft. As a talented filmmaker, he wrote countless scripts, directed two feature-length films, and produced numerous shorts and music videos. Yet, despite his creative drive, nothing mattered more to Mike than his family and friends.
It’s hard to say what role he cherished most: a devoted son to his mother and father, Jodi and Tom; a loyal brother to Mathew, Ann, and Tiffany; or a die-hard Dodgers fan. Mike’s happiest moments were always spent in the company of those he loved, sharing laughter, stories, and dreams.
A lover of all kinds of food, Mike’s heart belonged to pizza, with Mexican and Filipino cuisine as close runners-up. His tastes, like his personality, were vibrant and varied.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of creativity, laughter, and love. While we mourn his loss, we find comfort in knowing he is at peace, forever a part of the stories we’ll continue to tell.
