Nélida María Grotti, 99, was born on July 19, 1920 in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Alberto Diedrich and María Cristina Ferrari, and entered into eternal rest on January 13, 2020 in Seal Beach, California. She was born and raised in Argentina. On November 13, 1948 Nélida married Carlos Grotti and they had only one child, Silvia, with whom she spent the rest of her life.

Silvia moved to United States after she got married and Nélida followed her nine months later to live the rest of her life with Silvia, her husband Juan and their two precious daughters, these granddaughters were the light of her life. She enjoyed being with them always, family meant the world for Nélida. She was very happy as long as they were doing things together, no matter what they did, where they were going and/or where they were moving.

Nélida, also known as “Mamá, Mami, Yaya and Nelly" as a child adored and admired her father until her last days, with her father she learned to love clocks, watches; the business in jewelry, Nelly could never have too many clocks around her. The same love she had for her father she had for her brother and his family. Her brother like her dad were always surrounded by beautiful clocks.

Nélida loved flowers, took perfect care of any plant given to her and kept them alive like no one else ever could, she enjoyed that hobby the most in Rolling Hills where they lived for over 20 years. She spent hours taking care of plants and flowers, as soon as the gardeners left, she always made some changes it was really true that she made any flower look better on the places she chose.

Nelly also spent many hours writing, sending cards and letters to family and friends, she had beautiful penmanship and also loved to write long lists of phone numbers and addresses even on a very small notebook. She loved coffee and/or tea, and she was known for getting speeding tickets, she was very happy behind the wheel. She also enjoyed her outies with her son-in-law to the Argentine stores to buy “empanadas and faturas and have tons of chocolate together.”

Nelly always went to church and had a very strong faith and prayed at home. When she started to get tired, she would watch the mass from The Vatican on TV. She loved the Mass from Pope Francis. What Nelly loved and enjoyed the most was being with family; from going on trips, out to eat, watching TV with them at home, going to family gatherings or anywhere when she was invited. As soon as her family would mention going somewhere, she was the first one ready.

Yaya/Nelly has been Blessed in many ways; she had been present at all the events in her family; many graduations from high school, colleges, universities, holidays, birthday parties as well as gatherings at church; granddaughters’ baptisms, confirmations, the wedding of her older granddaughter which added another member to her family; later on baptism of her first great-grandson who she was able to enjoy a lot because he stayed at her daughter’s and son-in-law’s home very often, the family was growing and she was enjoying that as well very much until they moved to the East Coast. Yaya was a great-grandma again; she was able to see him a few times only, but she was happy to see them each time.

During the years after her younger granddaughter graduated from high school who went to college and universities on the East Coast as well as her studies abroad Yaya was praying for vacations or even spring break because during those times and every single holiday she would flight back home and that was Yaya’s biggest treat. On 2015, Nelly's awesome son-in-law retired, and the family moved to Seal Beach. In this new city, her daughter and husband were Blessed to meet the most wonderful community at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus and Women’s Guild members had prayed for her always and they had become the most loving and strongest support group her family needed in order to cope with Nelly’s already almost 95 years of age. She has always been very healthy, yet slowly and without any specific illness she started to show her age, even though her mental health was great, her memory incredibly sharp at that age.

About a little over a year ago everything started to become harder and harder for her even something she used to love; her famous outies which they became less, and less frequent, big gatherings were overwhelming for Nelly. So, her family adapted to the situation and stayed home to be with her more and more, especially for holidays. The Christmas of 2018 was the last holiday we were together. She, her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandsons in order for her to enjoy her family because once again, Yaya was very happy although not feeling very well.

So, for the latest celebrations it was just her daughter, son-in-law and younger granddaughter, Nelly enjoyed a lot of those celebrations until her last few months which started to be very difficult, still she was able to have a nice dinner at home, of course for Christmas Eve and Christmas day of 2019 and celebrated the New Year 2020 with a great dinner and champagne, yet she was no longer the “Mami, Yaya” who everyone knew, every day was a new challenge, she was getting very tired and was ready to join Our Lord and all the loved ones who had departed before her. She needed more and more help for everything, her daughter and son-in-law did everything they could for her to feel comfortable. Her daughter says Nelly would not had lasted to be almost “100 years old, short of six months” without “her team of three” her younger granddaughter running to come home as often as possible to help her Yaya and her parents and also it would had been impossible without all the prayers from St. Anne’s Church wonderful community, family and friends’ prayers.

On Monday, January 13, her family made sure to do facetime with the granddaughter on the East Coast and then late, that night, the team of three: daughter, son-in-law and younger granddaughter were praying the rosary by her bedside, 5 minutes after that Nelly, Mami, Yaya took her last breath. It was a Blessing how The Lord gave her to the last minute what she needed most, being surrounded by family, it has always been her happiness.

Nelly kept her Faith to the last minute and is now resting in peace becoming the new Angel to watch over her loving family and friends. An amazing healthy life, Nélida will be missed by many, especially the ones closest to her.

Her Daughter and Son-in-law's home seems so empty without her, but they know she is resting in Our Lord’s home where we will all meet again one day.

Nelly is survived by her loving family: Daughter, Silvia (Juan) Corredor, granddaughters Lisa BonoCorredor and Janice (Matt) Keener, great-grandsons JuanCarlos and Lucca. Sister-in-law Elvira Diedrich; Nephew, Alberto (Monica) Diedrich, their children and grandchildren, Michael (Vanessa) Diedrich, Paul (Beth) Diedrich, Jonathan Diedrich, Natasha Diedrich; and many friends of her daughter’s, son-in-law's as well as friends of her granddaughters who became part of her family as well.
