Patricia Ann Swanson Duncan, lovingly called “Patty-Annie” by her loved ones, was born on July 18th, 1942 in a small little town called Decatur, Illinois to Pauline Morgan Swanson and Melvin Swanson. She grew up a true midwest girl, and called butter "Oleo," the couch "the davenport," and said "worsh your clothes." Along with her older sister Barbara, and younger sister Susie, she wore poodle skirts, saddle shoes, and a classic bee-hive hairdo. She attended Catholic school until 12th grade. The family moved from Illinois and settled in Downey, CA, when she was 18. She married at the tender age of 21 after a blind double-date with Mr. Gavin Duncan, also known as “Jerry,” by his friends. Turns out her friend was on the date with Jerry! But they liked each other more than their respective dates, and the rest is history. Six months later, they were married and raised 3 children; Lori, Tricia, and David, and have 5 grandchildren; Kyle, Abbey, Josh, Davin and Alyssa, and 2 great-grandchildren; Kaylee and Lilah. They beat the odds and were married for 58 1/2 years!

“Patty-Annie” could “bring home the bacon AND fry it up in the pan!” She was an amazing homemaker and cook, staying home to care for her kids until they were school-age. She was on the PTA at her children’s school, St. Dominic Savio, and never missed a dance recital, gymnastics show, cheer competition, baseball game, or school event. She babysat the neighborhood kids to make ends meet, and eventually went on to be the office manager at a doctor's office for nearly 30 years before retiring. All the "little old folks" at the doctor's office quickly fell in love with "dear Patty," as she helped them get their prescriptions, navigate their illnesses, weather cancer, and even death. She was more than just an office manager, she was their friend, their counselor/confidant, and their shoulder to cry on.

Patty is described by her husband and 3 children as one of the kindest, most generous, loving, beautiful, smart, and strongest women-of-faith of her time. Not to mention she had the best laugh, sense of humor, and a smile that could light up the room. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with family and friends. She weathered some awful storms in her life, tragically losing her grandson too soon, beating C-diff, and fighting severe pain on a daily basis in her later years, that ultimately made it too difficult to walk. Yet, her faith in our Lord shined through, and she still managed to bless countless souls, not the least of whom are her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, to whom she leaves a beautiful legacy of love, laughter and beautiful memories. Patty will surely be missed, but her family finds much comfort in the knowledge that she is in Heaven with her Maker, and Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, hearing the lovely words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” She passed very peacefully, surrounded by all of her loved ones, on September 17, 2022 at the age of 80, after a valiant battle with sepsis. Her spirit and love live on in the lives of the people she touched.

If you feel so moved and are able to attend Patricia's services, we'd love to celebrate her life with you. If, for whatever reason, you cannot attend, you touched her life in some special way. On behalf of the Duncan Family, we are tremendously grateful for all of the wonderful cards, messages, flowers and meals that have been shared with us. They have most certainly eased our burden and grief during this difficult time. God Bless You.

There will be a reception immediately to follow in the church services. Flowers may be sent to the church on Oct, 15th, between 9am-10am. Or, if you'd prefer, you may make a donation to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Hospital, in lieu of flowers, at the following link
