Preston Charles Crossman (37 years old) of Spokane Valley, Washington, passed away while visiting family in Whittier, California on Friday, May 5, 2017.

Preston was born December 17, 1979, in Boise, Idaho to Sandy and Chuck Crossman. The Crossmans moved to the Spokane area when Preston was a young boy, and he grew up in the Spokane Valley. Preston attended Central Valley High School and was a part of the Football State Champion team in 1997. He graduated in 1998 and went to Western Washington University on a football scholarship. There he met Beth McFarland, also of Spokane Valley, Washington. After seven short years of dating (har-har), Preston and Beth married in 2005. In October of 2008, they welcomed their daughter – Paige.

Preston’s enthusiasm and cheerful spirit made an impression on all. His 6'7" frame, booming voice and laugh, smile and sense of humor were unforgettable – as was the pink tutu he wore to CV pep rallies. He was famous for calling others "big guy" and was always the one friends would call to move a couch.

In October 2014, Preston received a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) to treat his worsening heart failure. September 2015, he was placed on the transplant wait list for a new heart. In February of this year, Preston was admitted to the hospital with reduced kidney function and elevated heart pressures, and his doctors made the decision to move Preston to the top of the transplant list. After a two-week stay, our fighter was discharged from the hospital, but the decline in his kidney and liver function along with the limitations of hospitalization had taken their toll. Nevertheless, Preston and his family clung to hope that they were looking at a wider range of hearts and that he was top of the list.

At the end of April, Preston found out that his liver function was too poor to support a new heart and that he had been removed from the transplant list. Determined to make the most of the time left together, the Crossmans decided to spend as much time as possible with family and friends, both near and far. Beth, Preston, and Paige left for a two-week road trip to Southern California to visit Preston's extended family. Halfway through the journey, after spending an enjoyable evening with all his family, including Sandy, who had flown down to join them, Preston passed away very unexpectedly.

Preston was always thankful for the time he was able to spend with his family and friends because of the Providence Sacred Heart VAD team's efforts. Like his father, he wanted a party to celebrate his life and unite his friends and family in laughter and memories. Beth, Sandy, and Paige remembered and honored Preston on Saturday, June 3 in a celebration of his life with his family and friends.

Preston is survived by his loving family: Wife, Beth Crossman, Daughter, Paige Crossman, Mother, Sandy Crossman, Grandparents, Stewart and Myra Macnofsky, Grandfather, Dick Canner, Brother, Dylan Crossman, Aunt, Catherine Crossman, Uncle, Bruce Crossman (Gail), Aunt, Roschelle Terpak (James), Uncle, Rodney Canner (Yvonne), Uncle, Richard Canner, Aunt, Marti Dillon (Dan), Aunt, Suzanne Pitts (Michael), Aunt, Kathy Potter (Clayton), as well as numerous cousins.
