Ragnhild B. Klein was born Ragnhild Andresen Boysen in July, 1923 and passed away in South San Gabriel, Ca. on January 12, 2012. She moved with her family in 1928 from Hamburg, Germany to New York City. She grew up in the Jamaica neighborhood of the Borough of Queens.
She graduated Queens College and went on to serve as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy until the end of World War II. She completed her graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh, receiving one of the first Master of Social Work degrees.
She arrived in California in 1947 to become director of La Casa de San Gabriel, a pioneering social services center. She went on to serve with the YWCA, and taught social work as an assistant professor at the University of Southern California. She retired as a Deputy Probation Officer, doing social work for the County of Los Angeles.
Ragnhild retired into a life of community service, participating with the Civic League and her church, All Saints Episcopal in Pasadena.
She is survived by two children, Karl and Kathy, and grandchildren Jared and Kevin.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 11:00am at First Christian Church North Hollywood, 4390 Colfax Ave., Studio City, Ca. 91604.
