Raymond Lavey, 82, was born and raised in Orland, CA, the eldest of 3 children. Following high school, he attended Chico State College, majoring in electrical engineering and participating in the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. After graduation, he was hired at North American Aviation in Downey, CA. There, he worked on the dashboard control panels used in the cockpits of the Apollo space capsules and later the Space Shuttles, enjoying a career of over 35 years helping send astronauts to space and back.
A longtime member of St. Raymond Catholic Church in Downey, he was a member of its finance committee for many years, and was an active parishioner. He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, and also helped many young men attain their Eagle Scout award.
His hobbies were photography, especially taking photos of family and sunsets when traveling, and wood working. He loved camping, and traveling.
He is survived by Jill his beloved wife of 55 years, three adult children, Stephen, Robert & Susie, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, as well as his sister Clara and brother George, and many nieces and nephews, and he will be greatly missed.
