Raymond Philip Risher was born in Humeston, Iowa on May 19, 1922 and passed away in Montebello, California on May 14, 2010, 5 days shy of his 88th birthday.

Ray was the owner of Risher Montebello Mortuary, established in 1959, and Risher Ambulance from 1959-1996. He was Past President of the Montebello Rotary Club with 46 years of perfect attendance, and a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. He was Past President of the L.A. Co. Funeral Director's Association, Past President of the Montebello Chamber of Commerce, and Past President of the Beverly Hospital Foundation and member of the Heritage Circle. He was a charter member of the Montebello Masonic Hi Twelve and the Downey Elks Lodge (50 year member). He was a member of the following: Montebello-Whittier Masonic Lodge #323 (50 year member), Al Malaikah Shrine, Rio Hondo and Downey Shrine Clubs, Order of the Eastern Star, White Shrine, York Rite Shrine, Centennial Commandry, Royal Arch, Zabud Council, Cryptic Masons, Knights of Templar, American Legion Post #272, and the California Funeral Directors Association.

Ray is a WWII veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the 486th Bomb Squad aboard a B-25 bomber. He received many decorations and citations, including a Purple Heart.

Ray was honored as the American Legion Man of the Year, 1980, and the recipient of the Montebello All Service Club Award in 1980.

Ray is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Marjorie Risher. He leaves his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jeanette Risher of Montebello, his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Greg Welch of Seal Beach, and his grandchildren, Christy (Ryan) Smith of Newport Beach, Michelle (Gordon) Hanscom of Huntington Beach, Robert Risher Jr. of Huntington Beach, Nathan Welch, Zachary Welch, Kaylie Welch and Jenna Welch, all of Seal Beach. He also leaves 4 Great Grandsons, Hunter, Harrison and Hogan Smith, Gordon Hansom III and Great Granddaughter Lauren Hanscom.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 21, 2010 from 12:00-9:00 pm at Risher Mortuary in Montebello. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Montebello United Methodist Church, 1220 Whittier Blvd, Montebello, CA. Interment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Montebello Masonic Hi Twelve for a youth scholarship or to the Montebello Rotary Foundation.
