Robert 'Bobby' Guerrero
Robert was born on February 2nd, 1971, exactly one week before the famous Sylmar earthquake that caused lots of damage around the Los Angeles area. He was the youngest of 4 children and is survived by his mother Sara, his older brothers' Sergio and Mark and his sister Elizabeth. The family grew up in Maywood and Huntington Park, California. His parents were divorced when he was very young so he grew up without a father. His mother was busy working 2 jobs to keep the family going so Bobby used to spend lots of time hanging out at Maywood Park. Robert loved to ride his bike and could ride his bike backwards by sitting on the handlebars, which was quite a sight! After high school, he spent some time living with relatives in Guadalajara, Mexico so his cousins there considered him like a brother.
The family moved to La Puente in 1988 and he began to work for various companies such as Frito-Lay and Juicy Whip as a delivery driver. He also spent time working at the main Post Office, at the Albertson's Warehouse and Kern's Juices. He was very helpful and was the type of person that you could call, day or night, and he would be there to help. People that remember Robert will tell you that he always dressed sharp, smelled good and always had a smile on his face. He liked nice cars and enjoyed all types of music, liked to arm-wrestle and go to Las Vegas, but above all, he loved his 2 daughters, Kristelle (age 20) and Nathalie (age 14) They meant the world to him and he loved spending time with them and taking them wherever he went.
On March 17th, 2000, Bobby was in a tragic car accident. He was 29 years old at the time and he was lucky to be alive after the accident but was confined to a hospital bed, in a coma for the next 11 years. At first, he showed signs of progress by opening his eyes one day and also having reflexes like sneezing, shrugging and yawning, so the family was hopeful that he would make a full recovery some day, but he never regained full consciousness and was never able to eat, speak or walk again. Seven years after his accident, he began to have violent seizures, which are common for head trauma patients and the doctor's began prescribing various medicines to prevent them but the side effects of these drugs were severe and this eventually caused his health to decline and his heart to fail. Robert was cared for by his mother Sara, who quit her job to care for him right after the accident and after a year in various hospitals, she took him home and cared for him in her home in La Puente until he passed away on November 4, 2011, at the age of 40 years old.
