Robert was born in Gladbrook, Iowa in 1918 as the firstborn child to parents Frank August Schneider and Erna Christine Koester Schneider. In 1926, the Schneider family, with many members of the Koester family, settled in the Los Angeles area. Frank and Erna bought a plot of land at 873 Carmelita Avenue in Montebello, surrounded by orange groves and oil derricks. They quickly built a house and farmstead where they grew oranges, avocados and other fruits and vegetables. Robert, along with younger sister Elfair and younger brother Gerald, attended Greenwood Elementary School and Montebello High School. After High School graduation in 1937, Robert started work as an apprentice at Court Typesetting, Co, at 300 East 4th Street, across from the courthouse in downtown Los Angeles. He joined the US Army in 1941, and served in Italy. Upon his return from the US Army in 1943, he joined the owner of Court Typesetting, Carl Johnson, ten years his senior, as partner in the company. He remained at Court Typesetting until age 55, when Carl retired. He then worked at Jenkins Index Co. in Montebello for the remaining ten years of his career. He retired at 65.

He married his sweetheart Charlotte Lee Williamson of Montebello in 1941. They honeymooned at Studevant Falls in Angeles National Forest. They had a rich life and traveled all over the western U.S. In the 1950s, Robert and Charlotte built a house on Bonnie Vale Place in what was then a large avocado grove in Rivera, CA (soon to be renamed Pico Rivera). With son John and daughter Christine, the family moved to the La Merced area of the Montebello hills in 1962. Charlotte passed away in 1970. Robert married Evelyn Jarman of Montebello in 1972. Robert married Laverne Hosea of Whittier in 1975, and relocated to Whittier soon after. Laverne passed away in 2004. Robert enjoyed the company of his children and many friends, and between 2004 and 2010 traveled to the San Francisco Bay Area, Lake Powell, and Parker, Arizona. Robert lived in the same house in Whittier until 2011, when he moved to be closer to son John at Wildomar Senior Assisted Living in Wildomar, CA.

Robert was a member of the United Methodist Church since 1930, and was a member of the United Methodist Men of Montebello since 1944. He was on the Board of Directors for the Beverly Towers in Montebello, was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Vernon, a member of the American Legion Post #272. Robert was a Boy Scout during his youth and was a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts for most of his life. Highlights of scouting included attending the Scoutmaster Training at Philmont Ranch in New Mexico in the mid 1960s, hiking Mt. Whitney with son John in the 1960s and 1970s traversing many other wonderful places in the Angeles and San Bernardino National Forests, and in the High Sierra.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am Saturday, January 28, 2012, at the Risher Montebello Mortuary Chapel with a reception to follow. Interment will be held at Rose Hills Memorial Park.

Robert is survived by his son, John Michael Schneider (Melodie) of Temecula, and their two daughters, Shelbie and Alisa, and by his daughter, Christine Lee Schneider of Berkeley.
