Robert B. Szabat, age 69 and a resident of Downey, CA for most of his life, went home to be with the Lord on June 20, 2015 after complications from a stroke. Bob was so blessed to have family and friends around him to encourage and pray for him. Bob was born September 3, 1945 in Long Beach CA. His parents were Myron Szabat and Dorothy Brand Szabat.
Bob was raised with a strong work ethic. He worked on the chicken ranch his parents owned. They also owned Szabat's Feed and Seed in the city of Paramount. Bob graduated from Downey High School in 1963. He went into the Army National Guard, and later worked as supervisor of plumbing and electric for the City of Paramount for 10 years. During that time he went to the Sheriff's Academy and became a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Signal Hill for 11 years. Later he and his wife moved to Tennessee. Bob became an Electrical Inspector for Benton County while working on his 60 acre ranch and opening an Antique Mall. He moved back to Downey and with his wife, opened an antique & Collectables Mall on Firestone Bl. in Downey called “Lost in Time Antiques and Collectibles”. They had a Hopalong Cassidy Museum in the mall and a large collection of American Flyer Trains. Ever since Bob was a small boy he had a love for Hoppy and for toy trains. Bob worked at Net Electronics off and on part time for approximately 40 years. Bob loved making people laugh and loved laughing himself, he loved learning new things and was a jack of all trades: there wasn't much he couldn't do. He loved helping people. Another of Bob's loves was creating things. He helped build the Christmas train for the City of Paramount, passing out apples and candy canes. Bob also belonged to a car club called FIDUS ACHATES in his younger years, and was reunited with his buddies after searching for them on the Internet. He has been surrounded by these special guys who have loved and supported us all through this time of trial, we are so very thankful for these kind compassionate caring men, one of a kind guys!
Bob had great big dreams and lived a full life doing more than most. He will be so missed by family and friends even passing acquaintances. We are all so thankful to God for his life, we love you Bob! We are thankful he is with Jesus as he just rededicated his life to the Lord on May 9, 2015.
Bob was survived by his wife Linda Russell Szabat, his 3 step daughters Deborah Dufresne, Brenda Dufresne, Michelle Dufresne Potter and her husband Kevin Potter. Bob's daughter Kimberli Ann Szabat Nelson and her husband Jeff Nelson, their Daughter, Bob's Granddaughter Faith Lauren Nelson, 4 step Grandchildren Kori Mitchell Ali and her husband Ihab Ali, Joshua Potter, Alyssa Nicklas and Daniel Nicklas, Bob's sister Arlene Szabat Allen her husband Richard Allen who live in Gunter Texas, his niece Jennifer Allen Maddux and her husband John Maddux who live in Texas.
Thank you all for your constant prayers and support. He will wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor pain. All of that has gone forever.”
