Fr. Robert Stewart Vidal, 88, was born on June 10, 1936, in Santa Ana, California to Robert Joseph Vidal and Corrine Mary Nadeau, and entered eternal rest on July 15, 2024, in Los Alamitos, California.
Robert “Fr. Bob” was a devoted Catholic Priest for over 58 years, serving the community with love and dedication. From 1993 until his retirement in 2011, he was the cherished pastor of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Seal Beach, where he touched the lives of countless parishioners. Even in retirement, he would make time a few days a week to hear confessions and assist with masses.
Fr. Bob became an ordained priest in 1966. His first assignment as a priest was at St. Bonaventure in Huntington Beach. His other assignments included: Our Lady of the Rosary in Paramount, St. Martin de Porres in Yorba Linda, and St. Juliana in Fullerton.
Fr. Bob grew up in Orange County and loved to see how far the Diocese of Orange had grown in the last 48 years. The parishioners at St. Anne were like family. He truly cared and loved helping people. Ministering and counseling couples were important duties as well as his involvement in the Worldwide Marriage Encounter movement. He probably married over a thousand couples.
Fr. Bob lived a full life. During his life, he met Pope John Paul II and Benedict in Rome. Fr. Bob was also beloved by the countless priests he mentored. He leaves behind a legacy of faith and compassion.
Robert is survived by his loving family: Niece, Michelle Hernandez(Jose) of Walnut and Grand Niece, Alicia Hernandez of Walnut. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and the many lives he inspired throughout his journey of service.
