Samuel Ruben “Sammy” Loya, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, in Monterey Park, California. He was 69 years old.
Sammy was born to Lawrence Trujillo Loya and Carmen Robledo Loya on May 5, 1953, in East Los Angeles, California. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School, Bishop Mora Salesian High School, and graduated from Montebello High School. He received his Associate in Arts degree from East Los Angeles College. In high school, Sammy played the clarinet in the Salesian High School Mustang Marching Band and later in life played the congas for various bands. For over 20 years he was a Charter bus driver.
Sammy had a lifelong interest in show cars. He affectionately named his 1971 Chevelle "Magic Butterfly," which he proudly showcased as a member of both the Bachelor's LTD Car Club and the Lifestyle Car Club during the 1970s, making it his most treasured possession. He kept the car in pristine condition for over 46 years, until he parted with it in 2017. Sammy cultivated friendships with his fellow Lourdes and Salesian classmates and forged a profound connection with his car club family, creating enduring bonds that would last a lifetime.
Sammy was a caring and dependable son, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend. He is survived by his siblings: Margarita Garcia, Maria Garcia Wagner, Antonio “Tony” Garcia, Robert “Bobby” Loya, and Anita Desiree Loya. Sammy is now reunited with his beloved mother, Carmen, father, Lawrence, and sister Elena, who preceded him in death. Although his absence is deeply felt by those who remain on earth, we take solace in knowing that he is now surrounded by the love and warmth of his family in Heaven. As we bid farewell to Sammy, we hold dear the memories of his life and the love he shared with us until we meet again.
