Sarah M Loya Profile Photo
Sarah M. Loya was born to Nellie and Pedro Martinez on July 28, 1927 in Los Angeles, California and entered into eternal rest on January 4, 2016 at her home in Whittier, California. She was 88 years old.

As for Sarah, at the time of her birth children were born at home. Her family home as a child was located in the middle of Chavez Ravine on Paducah Street in neighborhood of Palo Verdes. This was way before Dodger Stadium so there was a joke in the family, the brothers and sisters born at home were all born on ‘second base at Dodger Stadium’. Sarah was one of the family members ‘born on second base’. She married early in life to Joseph Loya and became a stay at home mom raising her children until the 1960’s when she became a book binder; ensuring books and magazines printed were assembled correctly. She stayed within that line of work for about 30 years until she retired in the mid 1990’s. We have fond memories of her enjoying a good laugh or great giggle. She could make light of every situation and always find the bright side of things. Sarah was always very stylish wearing the latest fashions. She liked to dress up for special occasions. She was always ready to go dancing or to dinner with family and friends. She enjoyed a good meal or nicely prepared desert. She loved traveling to destinations both in the US and abroad. After her retirement, she traveled and visited family in Seattle, Washington and Stockton, California. She also ventured off with friends to faraway places such as Alaska, England, Germany, Italy - visiting Vatican City and Rome along with the Holy Lands and Greece. She was loved dearly by family, friends and neighbors. She will be terribly missed. Sarah, you will forever be in our hearts!

Sarah is survived by her three loving children; son Joseph Loya of Gig Harbor, WA, daughter Joanne Jeffries of Brea, CA and daughter Jeanette Loya of Whittier, CA. She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Yvette, Erin, Justin, Sarah and Anthony, 2 great grandchildren, Mara and Jacob, as well as her sister Maryann Zepeda of San Pedro, CA.
