Sedera Vargas, born on February 9, 1973, in Los Angeles, California, passed away on August 8, 2024, in Montebello, California, at the age of 51. Sedera was a cherished member of the community, known for her passion for movies and her commitment to community service. She often participated in volunteer work and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, sharing her favorite films and stories.
Sedera attended Fremont Elementary and Montebello High School before pursuing higher education at Cal State Los Angeles. Her professional life was marked by her career as a video/segment editor, having worked at VMS Hollywood before transferring to VMS San Diego. In San Diego, she loved serving her Transgender community at the San Diego Transgender Health and Wellness Center where she worked as a Transgender Navigator.
Beyond her career, Sedera had a vibrant array of hobbies. She was an avid collector of comic books, pop culture collectibles, video games, and movie posters. She particularly enjoyed playing retro video games from the 1980s and 1990s and was talented in drawing and creating comic book stories.
She is survived by her mother, Evangelina Herman, her brothers, Osbaldo, Joel, and GilRene Palacios, and her little sister, Eveliza. Sedera was not married and did not have children.
A wake and presentation of the body will be held on August 31, 2024, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Risher Mortuary & Cremation Services, located in Montebello, CA, followed by a celebration of life at the home of her brother Joel Palacios, and his wife, Nanci.
Contributions in memory of Sedera can be made to St. Jude's or the San Diego Transgender Health & Wellness Center, organizations that reflect her spirit of giving and support for the community. Sedera's life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew her, as she made a lasting impact through her creative passions and community involvement.
