Socorro Magallanes, 98, was born in Mexico and passed away on July 14, 2011 in Whittier, Ca. where she had resided for 2 years. She previously lived in Commerce for 22 years and was a homemaker for over 60 years.

Mrs. Magallanes played classical piano for many years and had a beautiful soprano voice. She sang in church choirs and for weddings. Mrs. Magallanes was a novice in a convent in Azusa, Ca. In 1954 she was "Queen for the Day" on the then popular TV show. She loved to crochet and loved being with her very large family and leaves a beautiful family legacy to carry on.

Visitation services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 from 5-9:00pm in the Risher Mortuary Chapel. A Catholic Vigil service will be at 7:00pm also in the chapel. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

She is survived by her 14 children, 7 boys and 7 girls: Rosemary Cerecedes of Desert Hot Springs, Father Manuel Magallanes of Oklahoma, Rebecca Fresquez of Culver City, Irene Hall of Colorado, Delia Reynaud of Hemet, Magdalena Magallanes of Rosemead, Michael Magallanes of Alhambra, Paul Magallanes of Downey, Margaret Monreal of La Puente, James Magallanes of Yelm, Washington, Robert Magallanes of El Monte, Andrew Magallanes of San Gabriel, George Magallanes of Alhambra and Dolores Martinez of Whittier. She also leaves 47 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
