Soledad Valdepeña, also known as "Chole" or "Sally" to her friends and family, passed away on December 8, 2013, at the age of 88 in Pico Rivera, CA.
She was born on April 10, 1925 in Los Angeles, CA. to Francisco Martinez and Maria Aparicio in Plateros, Zacatecas, Mexico. Her parents immigrated to the United States and she grew up in Los Angeles, CA. In 1945, she was married to Diego Valdepeña. They lived in Montebello, CA for over forty years and had four children together.

Soledad was a devout Catholic and dedicated her life to her church and family. She was a member of St. Benedict Parish where she often volunteered her time to feed the homeless and sometimes volunteered for senior activity programs. She was devoted to raising her children and was an accomplished cook who was often praised for her abilities. She was also an avid reader and loved novels and scripture.

Her son, David, daughter, Nancy, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, survive Soledad. Her husband, Diego, son, Richard, and daughter, Irene, predecease her. She was the last surviving sibling of her six brothers and sisters.

A Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 5:00-9:00 PM in the Risher Montebello Mortuary and Reception Center. A Prayer service will be the same evening at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 9:00 AM at St. Benedict Church. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
