Terence James McDermott was born on May 23, 1949 in California to Harold McDermott and Marylou Hoyt. He entered into eternal rest on February 25, 2020.
Terence McDermott was beloved by all who surrounded him. In his early years He enjoyed football in High School at St. Paul’s. He went on to Whittier College where he aspired to be a writer. He also joined the Army and later the National Guard. Terry took up painting which resulted in a few prize-winning paintings all while going back to school and successfully earning a teaching degree.
Always a huge sports fan Terry could be found catching the Rams or USC football games every fall. It’s no surprise that he found a passion for shuffleboard. Terry joined teams at the local bars and eventually joined at the Elks lodge where he held membership. Win or Lose, spending time with his shuffleboard friends and teammates quickly became his favorite past time.
Terry always had a special place in his heart for music. He had a huge classic rock record collection and developed a passion for the Blues. If you joined him at the bar, you might be treated to a Karaoke serenade from him.
Terry was full of life and always willing to act foolish if it would make you laugh. He loved hanging out with his kids and grandchildren and went by many nicknames. “Paka”, “Grandpa squidward” “Papa Smurf”, “Dad”, “Grandpa” and “Uncle Terry”. He enjoyed his life to the fullest.
Terry is survived by his loving children; his son, Michael Minch of Norwalk, CA, his son, David McDermott (Christie), of Tucson, AZ, his daughter, Rebecca McDermott (Adrian Lopez), of Costa Mesa, CA, his son, Timothy McDermott (Gina), of Whittier, CA, his son, Nathan McDermott (Lola), of Norwalk, CA, his son, Nolan McDermott (Kendall), of Tucson, AZ, and his son, Joel McDermott (Kristy) of Tucson, AZ. Terence leaves behind a legacy of 15 Grandchildren, and 1 Great Grandchild. He also leaves behind his sister, Virginia Hill of Knoxville, TN, his brother, Daniel McDermott of Placentia, CA, his sister, Eileen Pride of Ontario, CA, his brother, Patrick McDermott of Aliso Viejo, CA, and his sister, Colleen Greatsinger of Middletown, CT, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
