Tom Dutcher Profile Photo
Carl "Tom" Thomas Dutcher, 75, was born on October 8, 1941 in Los Angeles, California to Carl and Helen Dutcher and entered into eternal rest on June 27, 2017 in Montebello, California.

After graduating from Montebello High in 1960, Tom attended East Los Angeles College and then Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in architectural design. He soon moved to Seattle to work for an architectural firm as an apprentice. In a few years, as a fully licensed architect, he moved to Ketchum, Idaho, where he hoped to earn a living designing buildings while also pursuing his favorite outdoor activities—hiking and fishing in the summer, skiing in the winter.

In 1979 Tom gave up the free-lance life and returned to Montebello. Off and on for several years he worked for various well-known architectural firms, including Welton Becket and Associates of Los Angeles, Gibbs and Gibbs of Long Beach, and Pickard Architects of Whittier. In his leisure time he continued to go hiking when he could, and he also enjoyed playing golf and cheering at sporting events. A lover of classical music, Tom attended many concerts at venues around Los Angeles. In his later years he developed a keen interest in local history. He served as a docent at Sanchez Adobe and was an active member of the Historical Society and the Task Force to Save the Montebello Hills.

Tom is survived by his loving family: Brother, Steve Dutcher (Sue), Sister, Dottie Martinez (Michael), 2 nieces and 2 nephews, as well as several other friends and family members.

A Celebration of the Life of Carl Dutcher will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Quiet Cannon (Sunset Room) in Montebello.
